What screen resolution do you use?

What screen resolution do you use on your home computer? If you have more then one computer at home just apply this to the one you use most.

If you don't know what screen resolution you use follow the quick instructions below to find out and if your resolution doesn't exactly match those below, please just select the closest.

Windows Computers:
1) Right click on your desktop and select "properties"
2) Click onto the "Settings" tab
3) You should then see towards the bottom left, the currently resolution you are using.

Mac/OSX Computers:
1) Click the top left Apple icon and select "system preferences"
2) Select "Displays"
3) You should then be given a list of resolutions towards the left of the pop up, the one that is highlighted in grey is the one you are currently using

Nix Computers:
1) I expect you will know your resolution :)

Very nice JOOP :D Deffo the way to go!

I'm hoping we get a rather high average resolution, I might make the jump to a 1024x768 design for Havoc Dolls and increase the width from 800x600 design.

I run a dual screen setup of two 22" LCD panels at 1680x1050 currently, once I settle for a new GFX though Ill be making the jump to 1920x1200, even better to get all the 3D and graphics apps interfaces nicely laid out.

I still believe that most Website companies sell at 800*600

In the UK anyway... For some reason, even though screen sizes have been getting bigger and bigger, 800*600 is still the average screen size in the UK.

I had a little look into it when I was looking at my own website.

Its perhaps worth a shot seeing what the site looks like on 1024*768 on a 800*600 resolution monitor to see if it is completely nasty or somewhat usable

Currently in 800x600 is only 15% of users and 1024x768 is up to 60% on average so its almost time to switch and make use of all that viewing space

Will be a welcome change to having to design for 800x600 the past 9 years.

The sites already done in 800x600 as I do all sites for myself and clients at that res, basically for max compatibility but its getting to a point where only very few people are still using 800x600 and those who are will soon be upgrading their machines due to the age. So really at the moment its just on the edge of moving to 1024 designs, depending on target audience it can be tipped, for example if your designing a site for teenagers, your more likely to have newer and higher spec computers, probably meaning the majority o f users will be on 1024 at least.

Oh if thats the statistics today then I would say its almost definetly time!

Lets face it, most people on HDs when it goes live are most likely going to be younger-middle aged so if your research is right I think moving up resolutions soon is a good idea!

Also since you have the design finished it should be easy to scale it up a bit :D

Can you PM or mail me your website rates by the way... Just for the record  I have a few projects I may abuse you for :P

The media agency I work for produces for a minimum of 1024x768. Pitching for the new version of an existing client's site last November, the team demonstrated using the client's logs, and masses of other client's logs that over 60% of viewers have 1024 x 768 and above. What will surprise, is that 800x600 and lower came in at 6.5%, the rest was all above 1024x768. The only Apple machine to have a display smaller than 1024x768 (and all are above that anyway) is the iPod. The iPhone is 480x320 (163ppi), and given that the PPI is always going up (ie the MacBook Pro with it's insane 1920x1200 in a 17" package) even 13" laptops are above 1204x768.

Simple solution of course - make the design fairly fluid, with a minimum width of 900px.

And I use a 30" Apple display (with a 23" for iTunes and Mail). Mwuahah. I aspire, one day, to have three like Al Gore (http://img.timeinc.net/time/photoessays/2007/gore_life/20.jpg).
